On a boat with cable and pulley steering you need at least one boat steering cable tension spring, sometimes 2 springs to be put in the steering line to enable the wires to operate safely .
When turning the wheel the water pressure against the steering can snap the lines or make steering too harsh
Add one of these each side of the boat to take the snap out of the steer and to keep the steering cable taut.
